New Aggregator Program supported by the Canada Infrastructure Bank (CIB) Financing Decarbonization Investments

In 2021, the CIB announced a major investment in an innovative aggregator program (SOFIAC) focusing on energy retrofit and decarbonization investments in the industrial and commercial sectors. After piloting in the province of Quebec, SOFIAC now supports projects across Canada. The program allows participants to achieve their decarbonization targets without any required investment on their part. Program highlights:

· No initial capital outlay as all project costs are reimbursed solely through a portion of the savings generated

· Project repayments are conditional on verified energy savings throughout the contract term

· Positive cash flow from day one for clients as SOFIAC only uses a portion of the actual project savings as reimbursement

· Turnkey design-build approach substantially compressing the implementation schedule

· Technology agnostic solution allowing tailoring the projects around the specific business and environmental objectives, as well as current projects

· Ownership of the installed assets to enable all accounting depreciation and tax benefits

· No impact on the client’s borrowing capacity given that the agreement is structured as a subordinated debt without recourse,

· Possibility of deep infrastructure modernization with very high environmental impact given our long recovery periods sought
