Teresa Schoonings

FBO Director
Bimbo Canada

Teresa is the Senior Director, Government Relations & Sustainability of Canada Bread Company, Limited; a subsidiary of Grupo Bimbo, responsible for building a strong profile with all levels of government, demonstrating Canada Bread’s commitment to the communities where we live and work and deepening our sustainability connection.  Prior to this role, she held the role Senior Director, Corporate Affairs starting in May 2014 and was responsible for all internal and external communication, initial government relations outreach and establishing a corporate social responsibility program.   With Canada Bread since 2010, Teresa initially joined the company as the Vice President, Franchise Management.  In addition to managing four distinct regions of 1000 franchisees across the country, Teresa was responsible for franchisee communications, compliance and enhancing the overall franchisor/franchisee relationship, including the introduction of a new franchise agreement.

Teresa has a diverse background in varying fields.  Her early career was spent in the non-profit sector with United Way and shifted to working in the private sector for a local entrepreneur.  Teresa had the opportunity to work with the many different business ventures under the parent company owned by the entrepreneur, including Days Inn Hotel, Wendy’s Restaurants (15 locations), Streamline Information Systems (software distribution company), a technology company, a design company and a construction company in a wide capacity, including Communications, Marketing and Strategic Planning.  This also started her well-established career in franchising, when the parent company purchased a coffee house franchise system and became a Franchisor.

Teresa spent over ten years in the franchise industry.  First with the coffee house chain, then with a large North American hair salon company expanding multiple brands in both Canada and the United States, then finally moving to Canada Bread in legal management of their franchise system.

In her spare time, Teresa is very committed to volunteering in her community through the local Rotary Club.
