MUNICIPAL WASTE WATER SURCHARGES ARE A COST BURDEN FOR FOOD PROCESSORS - FIND OUT ABOUT NEW TECHNOLOGIES TO REDUCE YOUR COSTS!

Municipalities are imposing sewer use surcharges to industries that do not comply with their municipal sewer use bylaw criteria. In Ontario and in the United States, monthly surcharges vary from $2 000 to $ 25 000, representing significant annual expenditures. The Food and Beverages industry (FBI) is vulnerable to these penalties since its process water contains high concentrations of organic matter (BOD, TOC), total suspended solids (TSS) and nitrogen-containing compounds, specifically ammonia nitrogen producing plant proteins.

The challenges facing the FBI around water management are numerous, on one hand traditional wastewater technologies have limited success when confronted with high concentration (BOD, TSS, TN) , and often space availability in the plant needs to be taken into consideration when reviewing potential solutions and typically industry does not want to become operators of complex wastewater treatment plants.

BluMetric will present case studies of 2 new water treatment technologies designed specifically for the FBI that specifically deal with these challenges :

i)  return of investment (ROI) typically varies from 8 months to less than 2 years, ii) an improved treatment efficiency combined with simple operation  iii) a small footprint and reduced energy use. These systems can also be easily integrated into existing systems (retrofit), they are modular and adapt to variable hydraulic and organic loads. Leasing options are available to improve cash flow.

BluMetric Environment Inc. operated in Ontario through its 5 offices (Ottawa, Toronto, Kitchener, Kingston and Sudbury).  They have been helping clients meet their environmental needs since 1976, previously under the name of WESA. BluMetric is a multidisciplinary consulting firm specializing in wastewater treatment design and manufacturing of equipment. BluMetric provides specialized environmental and engineering services for a broad client base and a wide range of industries throughout the Americas. Since 1990, BluMetric operates in Quebec through 3 offices and also Latin America through its office in San Salvador for the Food and Beverages industry.
